Silicon carbide has a large number of applications in emerging industries and traditional industries. At present, the global semiconductor market has exceeded 100 billion yuan. It is expected that by 2025, the global sales of semiconductor manufacturing materials will reach 39.5 billion US dollars, of which the silicon carbide semiconductor market is expected to reach a market size of 2.5 billion US dollars in 2025. The tray (base) that supports SiC wafers, also known as a "susceptor," is a core component of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. And what exactly is this susceptor that carries the wafers?

Tantalum carbide coating is an important high-strength, corrosion-resistant and chemically stable high-temperature structural material with a melting point of up to 4273 °C, one of the several compounds with the highest temperature resistance. It has excellent high-temperature mechanical properties, resistance to high-speed airflow scouring, ablation resistance, and good chemical and mechanical compatibility with graphite and carbon/carbon composites. Therefore, in the epitaxial process of GaN LEDs and SiC power devices such as MOCVD, TaC coating has excellent acid and alkali resistance to H2, HCl, NH3, which can completely protect the graphite substrate material and purify the growth environment.

Silicon carbide (SiC) has important applications in areas such as power electronics, high-frequency RF devices, and sensors for high-temperature-resistant environments due to its excellent physicochemical properties. However, the slicing operation during SiC wafer processing introduces damages on the surface, which, if left untreated, can expand during the subsequent epitaxial growth process and form epitaxial defects, thus affecting the yield of the device.

Silicon carbide substrate is a compound semiconductor single crystal material composed of two elements, carbon and silicon. It has the characteristics of large bandgap, high thermal conductivity, high critical breakdown field strength, and high electron saturation drift rate.

Semiconductor materials can be divided into three generations according to the time sequence. The first generation of germanium, silicon and other common monomaterials, which is characterised by convenient switching, generally used in integrated circuits. The second generation of gallium arsenide, indium phosphide and other compound semiconductors, mainly used for light-emitting and communication materials.
